Welcome to MetaBioMec
MetaBioMec is a project funded through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowship (MSCA-IF-2017, Grant agreement ID: 796405) awarded to Dr Olga Barrera.
Dr Barrera has joined the University of Luxembourg as a Marie Skłodowska Curie Fellow in 2019 and holds a senior lectureship position at Oxford Brookes University, UK as well as a senior research fellowship at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford, UK.
MetaBioMec is devoted to the thorough understanding of the biomechanics of human menisci with the view of translating the knowledge to the orthopedic implants arena.
This will be achieved through a series of experimental tests and complex theoretical and computational models at different length scales.
There are two Institutions involved in the project:
- The host institution is the University of Luxembourg within the SnT - Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust. The theoretical and computational part of the project is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Bordas’ group.
- The experimental part of the project is conducted at the University of Oxford which is the partner institution. The activities are based at the Botnar research center, part of the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) within the Oxford Orthopaedic Engineering Centre led by Prof. David Murray and at the Laboratory for In-situ Microscopy and Analysis at the Engineering Science Department.
